UNION Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and for Hotels and Tourism Jeng Phang Naw Taung, who is also the Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the XXXIII South- East Asian Games hosted by Thailand, which was held at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok on 9 December.
Together with the Union minister at the opening ceremony were Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint, Yangon Region Minister for Social Affairs U Htay Aung, leaders and officials of the Myanmar sports delegation, team managers, coaches, and athletes.
NOC Thailand (SEAGF) President and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul delivered the opening speech, followed by a greeting message from King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand.
Afterwards, the XXXIII South-East Asian Games were officially declared open, with Thai athletes, who had previously won national honorary gold medals, carrying and lighting the torch to inaugurate the Games.
The XXXIII South-East Asian Games are currently being held in Bangkok, Chonburi and Chiang Mai in Thailand from 9 to 20 December, featuring 54 sporting events. It has been learned that Myanmar will compete in 38 of these events. — MNA/KZL
