Air quality index (AQI) is getting better in Tachilek which was once choking under dangerous levels of air pollution triggered by forest fires from Thailand.
According to the observations on 18 March evening, the air quality index has decreased to 143 of the orange alert level, said a statement released by the district management committee. Residents in Tachilek have suffered from hazardous haze due to forest fires on the border between Myanmar and Thailand since 14 March.
Departmental officials, members of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, fighters and volunteers from local social organizations conducted a survey on air quality, sprayed water into the air and distributed masks free of charge.
During the three-day survey period, air quality index reached 302 in AQI value on 16 March, was reduced to 276 AQI score on 17 March and lowered to 143 AQI level on 18 March.—Wai Yan Lin (IPRD)
