Five people died and 26 others were injured after a vehicle fell into a canyon in the northeastern Myanmar region of Sagaing on Monday.
The tragic accident occurred near mile post 16/4 on a road that leads to Alaungtaw Kassapa Pagoda in Kani Township at around 6 p.m. on 18 March. The vehicle carrying 33 pilgrims plus a driver and his colleague plunged into a 200 ft deep gorge after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle was driven by a man identified as Arkar (alias) Aung San Win, 25 years of age from Monywa. Five people—one man and four women—were killed on the spot and 26 others injured in the incident.
The deceased and injured people have been sent to nearby government hospitals. The driver is being questioned over reckless driving by the local police station.—MOHA
