THIHA Thudhamma Theingyi Daw Yi Yi Hla (writer Yuwady Khin Oo) died of old age in Sin­gapore during the third week of January, according to her family. She was 97 years old at the time of her death.

 

Daw Yuwady Khin Oo was born on 2 July 1930 in Yangon to Dr U Hla Maung and Daw Khin Yi. Beginning in 1944, she start­ed writing poems, short stories and articles under the pen name “Khin Oo”, contributing to Yu­wady Journal and Taingyinmay Journal. She later went on to write numerous short stories, novels and socially beneficial literary works for publications such as Myawaddy, Shumawa, Thwaythauk, Kalaungsoan, Moe Wai, Sonhtauk Magazine and San Nyunt Oo Magazine.

 

Dr Yi Yi Hla was a recipi­ent of the State-conferred Thiha Thudhamma Theingyi title and held the qualifications MBBS, DCH and FNCP (UNU). She served as a paediatrician, as­sistant director (Mother and Child Health School, Ministry of Health), adviser (Ministry of Health), Honorary Patron of the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Central), and Chairperson of Women Doc­tors’ Section of the Myanmar Medical Association, among oth­er responsibilities.

 

The remains of Sayamagyi Yuwady Khin Oo were cremated at the Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium Complex in Singa­pore. — ASH/MKKS
