YANGON Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein said during the awards ceremony for the Space Art, Cartoon, and Poster Competition held on the morning of March 3 at People’s Square that since its opening, the Space Museum (Yangon) has welcomed approximately 140,000 visitors to date.
The Chief Minister stated that upgrades are underway to expand the museum into a world-class facility in Southeast Asia. “We have opened the Space Museum (Yangon) to allow Myanmar citizens to study space science, sowing the seeds for space technology. Our youth now have the opportunity to study it and bring their dreams to life,” he said.
The museum is a modern upgrade of the former Planetarium and officially reopened as a space museum on 30 November. It is located at the People’s Square, Dagon Township, Yangon and open 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays except Monday and 8 am to 5 pm on holidays. Admission fees are K500 for monks, nuns and students, K1,500 for adults (over 12), K1,000 for children (under 12) and K5,000 for foreigners.
The competition ran from 27 February to 1 March, featuring over 6,000 participating students in various artistic categories. — MT/ZN
