THE first-day meeting of the group of elected Pyithu Hluttaw representatives comprising the presidential electoral college was held in the Pyithu Hluttaw meeting hall of the Hluttaw Complex in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
During the meeting, nominating and seconding vice-presidential candidates and submitting the nomination forms to the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, U Khin Yi, announcing the list of vice-presidential candidates and selecting one elected Pyithu Hluttaw representative to serve on the scrutiny committee to verify whether the candidates meet the qualifications prescribed for the President.
Dr Kyaw Kyaw Htay from the Dawei Constituency nominated Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing as a vice-presidential candidate, and Nang Yi Yi Win from the Pinlaung Constituency seconded the nomination to the Hluttaw.
Similarly, U Naing Min Oo from the Kyangin Constituency nominated Dr Kyaw Swe from the Taungdwingyi Constituency as a vice-presidential candidate, and U Moe Tin from the Sedoktara Constituency seconded the nomination.
Nomination forms (Form 1) for the vice-presidential candidates were completed with full details and submitted to the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw. The Speaker announced the list of vice-presidential candidates in alphabetical order, informing the Hluttaw accordingly.
For the selection of one elected Pyithu Hluttaw representative to serve on the scrutiny committee to verify whether the candidates meet the qualifications for the President, Dr Maung Thin from the Meiktila Constituency nominated U Khin Maung Soe from Hlegu Constituency, and Dr Thant Zaw Lwin from the Nyaunglebin Constituency seconded the nomination.
The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker confirmed and announced that, since only one nominee was proposed by the Hluttaw to serve as a member of the committee to scrutinize the qualifications for the President, U Khin Maung Soe from the Hlegu Constituency was selected as a member of the scrutiny committee.
The first day of the group meeting was adjourned to allow the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw to scrutinize the nomination forms for vice-presidential candidates and to compile the list of candidates. The second day of the group meeting will be held on 31 March. — MNA/KTZH
