THE Embassy of India in Yangon organized the 77th anniversary celebration of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on 9 April at the Myawady Media Centre in Yangon.
ICCR was established to strengthen cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and foreign countries, as well as to promote cultural exchanges worldwide. The year 2026 marks the 77th anniversary of its founding.
Founded in 1950, the ICCR celebrates its foundation day annually on 9 April. According to the embassy, this year is particularly significant as the ceremony was organized in honour of the visit to Myanmar by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs’ Minister of State, HE Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh.
During today’s ceremony, Ambassador Mr Abhay Thakur delivered the welcoming remarks, followed by a keynote speech from Minister of State Mr Kirti Vardhan Singh. Additionally, teachers and students from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) performed various cultural songs and dances.
SVCC is an organization that actively organizes cultural programmes and is composed of expert instructors in music, dance, yoga, and the Hindi language. — MT/ZN
