THE Research Section of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bagan Branch) under the Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture conducts excavation and re­search activities to understand the foundation systems built beneath the ancient pagodas and temples from different his­torical periods in the Bagan Region.

 

Since 2023, excavation and research have been carried out on the foundation systems of 12 ancient buildings from dif­ferent periods, and in 2026, the work will continue at Ngaky­we Nadaung Pagoda (No 1603) near the Mee Malaung Monas­tery west of the Thatbyinnyu Temple, Paukpinya Pagoda (No 1614) in front of the Ba­gan Archaeological Museum, and ancient building No 1905 located east of Min Oh Chantha Pagoda on the NyaungU-Old Bagan road.

 

According to the director of the department, the research­ers, students, and anyone interested in archaeological excavation and research are welcome to visit and observe the excavation work. — Dipa Lin (IPRD)/KTZH
