A Myanmar delegation, led by Union Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr Kan Zaw and Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development Dr Charlie Than, attended the 17th International Economic Forum and related meetings held in Kazan, Tatar­stan, the Russian Federation, from 13 to 17 May.

 

On 13 May, the Union Min­isters met Russian Industry and Trade Deputy Minister Mr Ro­man Chekushov, and discussed matters related to No 1 Steel Factory (Pangpet) and cooper­ation in the agriculture-based industries development pro­gramme and MSME sector.

 

They also held a discussion with the officials of Tyazhprom­export Co Ltd (TPE) regarding No 1 Steel Factory (Pangpet) on the same evening.

 

On 14 May, they attended the press conference for the 17th International Economic Forum and observed the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre.

 

At noon, Union Minister Dr Kan Zaw attended a panel dis­cussion titled “Ensuring Free­dom of Economic Activity and Technological Sovereignty in the Context of the End of the Era of Globalization,” while Union Min­ister Dr Charlie Than attended another panel discussion titled “Promotion of Russian Products in the Countries of the Islamic World.”

The Union ministers met Mr Rustam Minnikhanov, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, and discussed developments in petrochemical industries, mechanical engineering, IT, and agriculture in Tatarstan, strengthening bilateral coop­eration between Myanmar and Russia, implementation of two LoI signed during Dr KZ Rais’s 2022 visit to Myanmar, including agriculture, trade, and labor de­ployment to Alabuga SEZ, and further cooperation in economic dialogue and trade promotion.

 

On 15 May, they met an Omani delegation and dis­cussed cooperation in oil, LNG procurement, and the export of Myanmar agricultural products such as rice, mangoes, coffee, and pulses, and holding mutual economic and trade promotion forums.

 

They also met officials from Sber Bank to discuss financial transfer systems and cooper­ation in AI and cybersecurity under Gigachat AI.

 

The delegation led by two Union ministers arrived back in Myanmar yesterday evening. — MNA/KTZH
