THE Small-Scale Industries Department (SSID) will implement the Rural Family Income Improvement Project in 214 villages in the 2026-2027 financial year.
Vocational training courses such as sewing courses, food product and consumer production courses are being conducted to empower the livelihood of rural women. Training for men includes motorbike repair and maintenance, single-cylinder engine and electric machine courses. Implementing such projects will help transform local raw materials from villages into valuable finished goods, serving as import substitutes. Furthermore, lower transport costs will also enable local consumers to purchase these goods at more affordable prices.
The Rural Family Income Improvement Project began in the 2023-2024 financial year in 151 villages. The project extended to 500 villages over three years (up to the 2025-2026 financial year). — ASH/KK
