THE 5th Myanmar-Philippines Foreign Policy Consultations, co-chaired by U Ko Ko Kyaw, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and Mr Leo M Herrera-Lim, Under­secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Re­public of the Philippines, was held at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Repub­lic of the Philippines on the morning of 18 May 2026.

 

They cordially ex­changed views on enhanc­ing diplomatic relations and cooperation, strengthening trade and investment ties, ad­vancing energy cooperation, and combatting transnational crimes, and promoting peo­ple-to-people contacts. The discussion further covered Myanmar’s political devel­opments, including the key priorities of the newly elected Government and Myanmar’s cooperation to normalize its relations with ASEAN. The two sides exchanged views on regional and global issues such as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and its impact on the region, as well as the matters of common interest of both countries.

 

After the meeting, the Myanmar delegation, led by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the luncheon hosted by Un­dersecretary of the Depart­ment of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Mr Leo M Herrera-Lim.

 

On the evening of 18 May 2026, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs visited the Myanmar Embassy in Ma­nila, the Philippines. Follow­ing a tour of the Embassy, he met the Embassy staff and gave necessary guidance. — MNA
