THE opening ceremony of the 2026 Yangon Region Chief Minister Cup U25 men’s and women’s 14-district basketball tournament was held yesterday morning at Indoor Stadium 1, Thuwunna, Yangon.
The event saw Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu, regional ministers, sports committee members, team officials, coaches, athletes and invitees. The chief minister delivered an opening speech, presented sports equipment and awarded cash prizes to the band team.
The first match was played between the Kamayut District and Kyauktada District teams. A total of 14 teams with 196 athletes are competing in the tournament, which will run from 3 to 9 June. — MNA/KZL
