A former player of the Myanmar national football team in the early golden days and the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) Service Award winner, U Ba Yi, died at 88 on 22 June, according to the MFF.
U Ba Yi devoted his life to the development of the Myanmar football industry. He competed in international tournaments as a national team player and earned medals for his country.
Even after he retired from player life, U Ba Yi didn’t stop working in the Myanmar football sector and served as an international referee, an organizing officer and a disciplinary committee member at MFF.
“MFF will always pay its respects and honour its historical milestones. His death is a huge loss for the Myanmar football industry,” MFF said in a condolence letter.
MFF presented the Service Award to U Ba Yi in 2024 for his services for decades. He died at the age of 88, and a lot of social media comments expressed their sadness about his death. — TWA/ZS
