In Twante Township, Yangon Region, it is planned to cultivate over 80,000 acres of monsoon paddy during this monsoon season, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.
Officials are making field trips to conduct awareness campaigns. These campaigns focus on preparing farmland in advance for monsoon paddy cultivation to meet planting targets, promoting the use of high-quality seed varieties, and encouraging timely planting in accordance with seasonal rainfall. They are also sharing lectures on agricultural practices, soil conservation methods, and pest and disease management to prevent crop damage.
In the previous year, a total of 12,237 local farmers cultivated 126,764 acres of monsoon and summer paddy in the township. Of these, 81,335 acres were monsoon paddy, yielding an average of 68.12 baskets per acre. Likewise, 46,135 acres of summer paddy were cultivated, yielding an average of 96.75 baskets per acre. This year, farmers are cultivating paddy varieties such as Taungpyan, Kyarpyan, Sin Thukha, Day-90, Kaukhnyin, Hnankar, Ayarmin, Manaw Thukha, and Hmawbi-3.
