THE University of Traditional Medicine is teaching research methodology, artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalization alongside traditional medicine, according to Rector Dr Thein Zaw Lin.

The university aims to shift traditional medicine from experience-based practice to evidence-based medicine. In addition to traditional medicine, students study the same basic modern medical subjects taught at medical and medicine-related universities.

Established on 9 January 2002 under the National Education Promotion Four-Year Plan, the university offers a five-year programme comprising four years of academic and practical study followed by a one-year internship. It has produced 1,875 graduates with a Bachelor of Myanmar Traditional Medicine (BMTM) and 133 with a Master of Myanmar Traditional Medicine (MTMM). A PhD in Myanmar Traditional Medicine (PhD MTM) programme was introduced in 2025.
