Four hundred police personnel have been deployed for flood disaster response in Mindanao, southern Philippines, official media reported on Friday.

According to the Philippine News Agency, the provinces of Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte in Mindanao have been affected by heavy rains over the past two days.

Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia, director of the Police Regional Office - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, said that 400 police personnel have been deployed for disaster response in the provinces, and over 780 personnel from the Reactionary Standby Support Force are on standby for immediate deployment.

At present, 278 families, or about 1,923 people, are temporarily sheltered in facilities, according to the report.

The Philippines has entered the rainy season. Affected by typhoons, the southern mountainous areas often suffer from natural disasters such as flooding and landslides.
