MYANMAR women’s national football team has been granted the opportunity to compete at the 20th Asian Games, which will be hosted by Japan. The women’s football tournament group draw will be held on 23 July.
Myanmar was added to the competition after some teams withdrew, with the final list of participating teams announced on 10 July. A total of 12 teams, including Japan, North Korea, South Korea, China, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Taiwan Province of China, Hong Kong SAR, the Philippines, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam, will compete in the women’s football event.
The Asian Games will mark the second international tournament for Myanmar’s new Japanese head coach Mitsuo Katoh. Myanmar women’s team previously competed once at the Asian Games in 2022, where they were eliminated in the group stage. — Nyi Myat Thawda/KZL
