THE Buddha Pujaniya Festival of Sutaungpyae Pagoda and Sutaungpyae Pagoda, located at Taung­pyone village in Mandalay Region’s Madaya town­ship, and the ritual cere­monies in honour of the two spirits of Taungpyone will be held in August, ac­cording to the festival or­ganizing committee.

 

The historic event will be celebrated for eight consecutive days from 21 to 28 August; opening cer­emony and the ritual cer­emony on the first day, 21 August, the ritual showers of the two spirits on 24 Au­gust, crossing the stream and hare hunting on 27 August and alms offering to Sutaungpyae Pagoda on 28 August.

 

Every year, a massive influx of visitors comes to enjoy the festival, and the organizing committee said it has made sure of prop­er security arrangements this year. The organizing committee said the securi­ty across the Taungpyone area has been stable.

 

“In cooperation with relevant organizations, we’ve made preparations specifically for security and disciplinary works, for visitors from distant areas and sellers to participate safely and peacefully,” said a member of the organiz­ing committee.

 

It said stalls selling traditional foods, souve­nirs and other products will be arranged system­atically. — TWA/ZS
