A ceremony commemo­rating the 99th anniversa­ry of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China was held at the Novotel Max Hotel in Yangon yesterday evening, with Deputy Command­er-in-Chief of Defence Services and Command­er-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swa Lin attending the event with his wife.

 

General Kyaw Swa Lin and his delegation were welcomed at the venue by Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms Ma Jia, Chinese Military Attaché to Myanmar Senior Colonel Qu Zhe and his wife, along with other officials.

 

The ceremony began with the playing of the na­tional anthems of Myanmar and China, followed by a documentary presentation highlighting the history and development of the PLA. Senior Colonel Qu Zhe then delivered a welcom­ing speech.

 

As part of the pro­gramme, General Kyaw Swa Lin, his wife, the Chi­nese ambassador, and the Chinese military attaché and his wife cut a commem­orative cake marking the PLA’s 99th anniversary, followed by a group photo session.

 

The Chinese am­bassador and military attaché later hosted the guests at a commemora­tive dinner.

 

The event was at­tended by senior mil­itary officers from the Office of the Com­mander-in-Chief and their wives, the Yangon Command commander and his wife, foreign am­bassadors, chargés d’af­faires, military attachés from foreign missions in Yangon, and other distinguished guests. — MNA/ST
