A new embankment is being built in Zalun Township, Ayeyawady Region in order to prevent flooding from the river water.
Accompanied by concerned officials, the Director-General of the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department U Kyaw Myint Hlaing made a field trip to construction site to check out worksite safety and timely completion of the project this morning. The embankment measures 7,500 ft. in length and is being built by three tender winning companies with Ks. 990.868 million allotted funds in the fiscal year 2018-2019. The project has been over 51 percent finished and maintenance work is being undertaken by staff from IWUMD.
Upon completion of the project, it will be able to protect more than 1.25 million people and 300,000 acres of farmland from Zalun, Kyonpyaw, Yekyi, Danabyu, Kyaunggon, and Ngathainggyoung Townships from flooding.—Wai Yan (IPRD)
