A ceremony to present cash and kind to storm victims took place at Bo Ottama Hall of the General Administration Department in Pwintbyu Township, Magway Region this morning.

Some people from six households became the victims of storm after strong winds hit the area on 19 April. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Pwintbyu Township Disaster Management Committee and Township Administrator U Win Shwe said that people across the country face natural disasters due to climate change. He said the government is making its utmost efforts to provide necessary assistance to the people, urging those present to arrange disaster preparedness measures in order to reduce casualties triggered by floods, fire, storms and earthquakes.

Next, Regional Lawmaker U Tint Hsan, the township administrator and concerned officials presented Ks. 20,000 each and relief items furnished by the Department of Disaster Management to storm victims from two villages.—Ye Win Naing (NyaungU)
