A FOREST fire occurred at U Soe Myint’s 510.78 acres of rubber farm in Potethinnyo Village, Hlegu Township, northern Yangon around 1 p.m on 29 April.
Acting on a tip, fire was initially started from the scorching heat in the rubber farm and the blaze was spread to the rubber and bamboo plants inside the farm. The fire was under the control around 4:05 p.m and it was totally extinguished at 7:40 p.m by 160 firefighters, policemen and residents with three fire engines from Hlegu and Htaukkyant Fire Services departments.
Over 100 acres of planation, including rubber and bamboo plants were destroyed in the blaze. No injuries to human and animals are reported. —Naing Lin (Hlegu) (Translated by La Wonn)
