Groundbreaking ceremony for construction of Lailenpi airport was held at the construction site in Lailenpi, Matupi Township, Mindat District, Chin State this morning.

First, Chin State Chief Minister Salai Lian Luai, State Minister for Planning and Finance U Wi Kaw, State Minister for Social Affairs U Pau Lun Min Thang, State Minister for Transportation U Shwe Htee Ooe, Secretary of Chin State Government U Toe Win, Director General U Min Lwin  and Director U Kyaw Win from Department of Civil Aviation, Chairman from MAF airline Mr. Alan Chan, Dr. Sar Sar from Health and Hope Foundation Myanmar and engineer in-charge of Lailenpi Airport construction Mr. Terry drove the stakes for the construction.

Afterwards, the Chin State Chief Minister gave remarks at the public meeting and the officials from the Department of Civil Aviation and responsible person from the MAF airlines clarified the salient points of the construction. 

The cost of the project is estimated at USD 2 million and jet planes will be allowed to land at the airport.
