The Anti- Corruption Commission has opened a branch office on 82nd street, Tammawady block, Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay Region.

 

Union Minister for Industry U Khin Maung Cho, Chairman of Anti- Corruption Commission U Aung Kyi, Chief Minister of Mandalay Region Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, Speaker of Mandalay Regional Hluttaw, Chief Justice of Mandalay, region law officers, Mandalay Region Advocate-General, Mayor of Mandalay, Regional ministers, UNDP/ UNODC officials, representatives from Trade and Industrialists Association, media and invited guests attended the ceremony.

 

In his opening speech at the ceremony, the Chief Minister of Mandalay Region said that anti-corruption is very important for developing countries, countries in the development process and countries in their transitional period, and that the same practice generates delays in development, a lowering of standards and a lack of rule of law.

 

He continued to say that the work of anti-corruption is highly important for the country and its people, and that collective efforts by both the government and public are needed to make a success of the commission’s work.

 

The Anti-Corruption Commission has received 1,677 letters of complaints from Mandalay Region so far, and 168 ineligible complaints have been returned to regional governments. He welcomed the branch office and expressed his willingness to work with it, he added.

 

Afterwards, Chairman of the commission U Aung Kyi said that with this branch at the center, it would be an opportunity to speed up the investigation process and in dealing with people. Also, the commission intends to be of great support in steering clean government and good governance, to raise overall dignity and the liability of governing bodies concerning the public, and to protect the county’s property, as well as national rights and interests.

 

He added that the commission’s success, to a reasonable degree in fighting corruption, is one of the indications of enthusiasm for Anti-corruption by the president, regional and state governments. Thus, he hopes to see assistance and support from the attendee officials from various sectors, in order to meet the commission’s visions and mission.
