The ‘Beauty of Mekong’ art exhibition and competition will kick off on 22 May at the National Museum in Yangon to commemorate the 10th Mekong-Japan Exchange Year 2019. Creative ideas and innovative concepts will be showcased in the exhibition.
“Myanmar will host the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year 2019. It is being arranged by the National University of Arts and Culture, under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, and under the supervision of the State Counsellor,” said U Myat Tun Aung, Professor Head of the Art Department at the university.
A total of 72 artists, including professional artists from Myanmar, well-known international artists, and teachers and students from State Schools of Fine Arts and universities of Arts and Culture will participate in the competition.
Artists from Tokyo University will represent Japan and exhibit pictures and canvasses. The exhibition will feature the finest art and photographs from Mekong region countries, including Thailand, Cambodia, and Viet Nam.
The ‘Beauty of Mekong’ art competition is open to everyone under the age of 40. Those wishing to participate in the contest need to send watercolor paintings, oil paintings, and acrylic artwork to the Yangon and Mandalay Universities of Culture by 15 May. The winners will be announced on 22 May, the first day of the exhibition. The exhibition will be held from 22 to 28 May and will be open from 9.30 a.m to 4.30 p.m every day. —Khin Zarli
