Altogether seven illegal migrant workers—five men and two women who were without proper documents were handed over by Thai authorities to Myanmar counterparts at No. 2 Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge in Tachilek, Shan State yesterday.
Illegal migrant workers were welcomed by Myanmar departmental officials and local authorities of relevant departments.
The Myanmar workers were arrested for working and residing in Thailand illegally without proper documents. Myanmar authorities from the General Administration Department, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, the Anti-Human Trafficking Police Force and the Caring and Negotiating Committee for Myanmar Citizens (CNCMC), a Mai Sai-based welfare society helped seven migrant workers including two women return their homes in a safe and secure manner.
Altogether 778 illegal Myanmar migrant workers—498 men, 249 women and 31 children—were handed over by Thailand to Myanmar between the period from January 1 to May 16 this year.—Sai Aung Zaw Lin
