POHANG Steelers FC of the Republic of Korea’s League (K-League) will play two friendly matches in Myanmar, according to the Myanmar Football Feder-ation (MFF).
The K-League team will play a friendly match against Myan-mar National League Club team on 28 May at 5pm, and U-22 na-tional football team on 30 May at 5pm at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon.
The friendly matches are highlighting the friendship be-tween Myanmar and the Repub-lic of Korea. Myanmar Posco In-dustrial Company is primarily sponsoring the matches, along with the MFF.
A Korean cultural enter-tainments programme will be performed during the friendly matches, and a lucky draw pro-gramme will also be held for foot-ball fans.
Football fans can attend the friendly matches free of charge, said the MFF officials.
Looking back at the histo-ry of the team, on 28 February in 1994 the K-League Club, with its former name Pohang Atom, played their first friendly match against Myanmar Football Fed-eration’s selected team at Aung San Stadium in Yangon.
At that time, the K-League Club defeated the MFF’s selected team 3-1.
The MFF selected team was lined up with national foot-ball stars, including goal keeper Aung Kyaw Kyaw, defenders Soe Naing, Saw Ba Myint, and Tin Myo Aung, and midfielders Soe Moe Kyaw, Nyunt Win, Kyi Lwin, Than Toe Aung, and Mg Mg Oo, and strikers Win Aung and Myo Hlain Win. The winning goals for the K-League team were scored by Korean national team star players, and substitute midfielder Kyaw Min scored a consolation goal for the Myanmar team.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
