Construction of a new diversion weir that can irrigate over 3,000 acres of farmland near Pharku Anaut Village and Dayzet Village in Thanlyan Township, Yangon Region has been cent percent finished, according to a source from the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

The aim of the diversion weir is to improve agriculture sector, protect nearby villages from flooding and utilize irrigation water beneficially. Commenting on the construction of the facility, U Maung Thein, a local farmer from Pharku Village said that some farmlands have been inundated by rising floodwaters from the Bago River, adding the facility will prevent some farmlands from flooding in summer cultivation season, said the Pyithu Hluttaw Representative for Thanlyan Constituency U Lwin Ko Latt.

He also expressed words of thanks to the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department for construction of the diversion weir. Construction of the project began in January and has been completed in early this month.—Thet Khaing
