Kyauktan, 23 May
A resident in Chaungsauk Village, Kyauktan Township in Yangon Region unearthed different kinds of ancient Buddha statues on 22 May.
The local discovered twelve Buddha statues when he brought some bricks from an ancient collapsed pagoda that was built more than 130 years ago to be used in constructing a kitchen of a monastery. Some Buddha statues were cast in silver, depicting the word “the Waxing of Pyatho, 1249 Myanmar Era”. The newly-found ancient works of art are currently being preserved at the monastery.
The abbot of the monastery also informed the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library about the discovery of the ancient artifacts.—Nan Aye Khaing (Kyauktan)
