YANGON United drew with Sagaing United 1-1 in the 1st leg of a semifinal in the General Aung San Shield 2019 at Monywa stadium in Monywa yesterday.
As the match was crucial for teams seeking to advance to the final of the tourney, both teams used its key players with colorfultactics.
Yangon United brought in star footballers goal keeper Kyaw Zin Htet, Maung Maung Lwin and Aee Soe, while Sagaing United used its best players, Captain Donal Bissa, Thant Zin Min and goal keeper A Zin Hmue.
Yangon United executed a fast attack from the kick off, but Sagaing United’s defense was massive enough for the opponents to clear nearly every ball. Still, Yangon took advantage of Sagaing United’s defense at the 37 minute mark, as youngster Aee Soe scored an opening goal with a header over the corner kick support of its team mate Maung Maung Lwin.
The lead goal for Yangon United did not last long, as Sagaing United made a quick attack in return to earn their equalizer.
The equalizer was scored by Sagaing expat player Bissa in a penalty shot at 45 plus 2 minutes mark, as the first half ended with 1-1 draw. The second half saw more aggressive play than the first half, with both team’s displaying all out efforts.
Yangon United missed at 75 and 83 minutes, while Yangon’s aung Maung Lwin’s scores were interrupted by the opponents.
Sagaing United remained strong in defence until the final whistle, as the match ended 1-1.
As for the draw, both teams will fight for the final match in the upcoming 2nd leg of the tourney’s semifinal on 2 June, which is scheduled to be played at the home stadium of Yangon United.— Lynn Thit (Tgi)
