The school enrolment week is being held from 25 to 31 May across the country for the 2019-2020 academic year. A total of 43,566 students have registered at schools in the Northern District of Yangon Region during four days of enrolment in Yangon Region.
“As the education system is free of charge, the government is providing textbooks and a dozen exercise books to each student. Moreover, books donated by Hluttaw representatives and general administrators are also being distributed free of charge to students during the school enrolment week. Among the four districts in Yangon region, there are 1,001 schools in the Northern District,” said Daw Aye Thandar Chit, the head of the Northern District Education Office. The Ministry of Education will provide derivative training courses for Grade-3 and Grade-6 in the Northern District, and teachers have completed a summer course to become familiar with the new curriculum. They will teach the new curriculum to students which is aimed at encouraging innovation, accountability, unity, and democratic practices.
Among the 43,566 registered students in eight townships of the Northern District, there are 26,437 Kindergarten students, 13,614 middle students, and 3,515 high school students.—Than Htike (Translated by La Wonn)
