A total of 17 Myanmar migrant workers were repatriated by Thai authorities to their Myanmar counterparts at Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge-2 in Tachilek yesterday.
The migrant workers were sent back due to illegal stay without proper documents and expiry of cross border pass according to the laws of Thailand.
They were welcomed and provided with assistance by officials from the Township General Administration Department, the Labor, Immigration and Population Department, Anti-Human Trafficking Police Force, Departments of Labor and Disaster Management and Caring and Negotiating Committee for Myanmar Citizens in Mae Sai. They were provided with health care services by the Public Health Department before having been transported home.
A total of 866 people including 566 men, 269 women and 31 children were handed over to Myanmar authorities between 1 January and 30 May this year.
