In commemoration of International Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, essay and painting competitions were held at the public library of Mandalay District Information and Public Relations Department in Mandalay region this morning.

At the event, Daw Myint Myint Than, officer in charge of Mandalay District IPRD dealt with the scourges of narcotic drugs, clarifying the rules of the competitions.

“I didn’t have much knowledge about drugs before. I came to know the dangers of narcotic drugs after reading books in order to participate in the essay competition,” said Kalya Nwe, a grade-7 student studying in a private school.

A total of 40 people including staff from IPRD, teachers and students from private schools were present at the events. An awards ceremony will be held on 21 June, it is learnt.—Tin Zar Hlaing (IPRD)
