One person was killed and eight others injured after a passenger bus skidded out of control in Kutkai Township, Northern Shan State on Sunday afternoon.

The accident took place near Namtphatkar Village on the Mandalay-Lashio-Muse Union Highway in Kutkai Township at about 12:45 noon. A Muse-bound passenger bus named “Pauk Shwepyi” hydroplaned and overturned on slope of mountain due to rainwaters near Namtphatkar Village. Out of 11 people aboard, one man died on the spot and eight others were hurt in the incident.

The driver aged 35 fled the scene of the accident. The local police filed charge against the driver over reckless driving.—Sai Aung Zaw Lin
