A coordination meeting on permission to use roadside land, acquiring electricity, construct infrastructures, link up with security and other transport facilities for Ministry of Transport and Communications Road Transportation Administration Department (RTAD) to implement a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system was held at Ministry of Transport and Communications meeting hall yesterday.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Kyaw Myo and Nay Pyi Taw, State/Region ministers for transport, Permanent Secretaries from relevant ministries, directors general and officials.
At the meeting Deputy Minister U Kyaw Myo gave an opening remark about implementing RFID system, assessment and selection on hiring a consulting agency and future work processes and RTAD Director General U Zaw Min Oo explained in detail about matters in conceptual plan on implementing RFID system, status of conducting feasibility study after signing contract agreement, works to be conducted in cooperation with ministerial departments, Nay Pyi Taw/State/Region governments and smooth in-country work processes for RFID system.
Next, State/Region ministers and departmental officials also provided sector wise suggestions and discussions.
RFID system was being implemented to resolve problems arising out of increasing numbers of vehicles, control and manage the vehicles, apprehending vehicles used in commiting crimes, control and manage unlicensed/unregistered vehicles including motorcycles. By issuing RFID Sticker or RFID Tag to licensed/registered vehicles, vehicles including motorcycles without license/registration can be easily identified and apprehended.
As per the conceptual plan, RFID Readers and Antennas will be installed at strategic places on union roads, major junctions in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and cities in states and regions at the same time as the construction of Main Data Center and Control Centers were underway.
Moon Engineering Joint Venture Co., Ltd. had won the tender to provide consultancy service for implementing RFID system and a contract will be signed in the first week of July and then a feasibility study will be conducted as well as tenders for remaining services and materials will be issued it is learnt. — MNA
