16 Myanmar migrant workers including eight men and eight women were sent back by the Thai authorities to their Myanmar counterpart as their border passes have expired. The hand-over took place at Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge-2 yesterday.
Also present on the occasion were personnel from Tachilek District General Administration Department, the Labor Department, the Anti-human Trafficking Police Force, the Disaster Management Department and the Caring and Negotiating Committee for Myanmar Citizens (CNCMC), a Me Sai-based welfare society. The returnee workers were sent to their places of origin after being provided with health care.
A total of 940 illegal Myanmar migrant workers including 616 men, 292 women and 32 children have been handed over by Thailand to Myanmar from January 1 to June 17 this year.—Sai Aung Zaw Lynn
