Residents and organizations across Yangon cheerfully celebrated State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 74th birthday yesterday.

At 7:40 a.m., 740 people assembled to form a portrait of the State Counsellor at the Maha Bandoola Park downtown.

Ko Maung Maung Aye, the presenter, said this event was carried out by citizens who admire the State Counsellor. They also wished her long life and supporters donated over K.10 million to the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation. The donation was handed over to the foundation’s executive committee member Dr. Thant Thaw Kaung.

Also in the evening, people gathered at the Botahtaung Pagoda to light 7,400 oil lamps for the State Counsellor’s 74th birthday. Yangon Region Hluttaw Deputy Speaker U Lin Naing Myint and Deputy Mayor U Soe Lwin were present as well.

Similarly, in the charitable spirit of Myanmar, residents of wards across Yangon organized food donations and commemorative events to celebrate the State Counsellor’s birthday. —MNA
