A Disaster Alert Notification-Dan Application developed for the people across the country was launched yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.

The app which is called the “DAN Application” was officially launched by the Disaster Management Department of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement at the Hilton Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw with a number of key persons present to commemoration the significance of the event.

Funded by the UNDP and ECHO, the application was upgraded.

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye spoke about the importance of the app, stating that the application would help the mobile phone users to get access to critical weather information so that they can carry out preparedness which lead to reducing the losses in the event of disasters affecting them.

Dr. Win Myat Aye said, “About 87 per cent of the total households of Myanmar uses mobile phones. It means about 40 million people have got access to internet. Therefore, it is found that raising awareness through mobile phones are very effective.” The app also allows the users to get information and to send information. Meanwhile, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Ms. Dawn Del Rio expressed his delight for cooperation of the ministry and the ministry’s commitment to using the DAN Application for the benefit of all. In the second session, employees of the ministry took part in the workshop discussing steps and processes for widely dissemination of the app.

Dissemination about DAN Application and introducing it to the people would be launched in regions and states next week.

DAN Application can also be used by the persons with disabilities and is available on the Google Play Store or Apple Store for download.

The Department of Disaster Management encourages all the people to download this app so that they can become more readily prepared for any emergencies and disasters.—MNA
