China's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that President Xi Jinping will visit Japan this week. Officials say Xi will be in the country from Thursday to Saturday at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

It will be Xi's first visit since he took office in 2013. The Chinese president is scheduled to attend the G20 summit in Osaka. He is also expected to sit down with Abe and hold talks with US President Donald Trump amid continuing trade friction between Washington and Beijing.—NHK
