A ceremony to commemorate the upgrade completion of irrigation canal systems of North Nawin, South Nawin, Wegyi and Taung Nyo dams in Bago Region west was held at Paungde Township Wegyi irrigation canal project briefing hall yesterday morning.
At the event Union Minister Dr. Aung Thu said benefits from dams and irrigation canal systems in which the State had investment a lot of funds must be used effectively and systematically for the socio-economic development of the people in the region and all are urged to cooperate toward transferring this inheritance to the next generation.
Next, Region Chief Minister U Wiin Thein spoke of using irrigation water to plant crops that had market and could gain good income, follow GAP and organic systems to strive toward producing high value products that’ll increase income of the farmers.
Afterwards, Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar Mr. Ichiro Maruyama and JICA Chief Representative Mr. Masayuki Karasawa delivered speeches of honor and appreciation.

Later, Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department Construction 2 director explained about project implementation and a local farmer spoke words of thanks.
Union Minister, Region Chief Minister and officials from JICA then unveiled the project commemorative plaque by pressing a button.
The project that used Japanese Yen 14,870 million to modify, concrete and brick line the canals, construct canal inspection roads, approach roads and canal buildings, repair and reconstruct bridges and siphons, purchase and provide machineries for North Nawin, South Nawin, Wegyi and Taung Nyo dams in Bago Region Paukkaung, Pyay, Thegon, Paungde, Nattalin and Zigon townships benefits a total of 216,285 acres. — MNA
