A coordination meeting on holding the 72nd Martyrs’ Day was held at the office at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum yesterday.

The meeting was chaired by Thura U Aung Ko, Chairman of the Central Committee for Holding 72nd Anniversary Martyrs’ Day and Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture.

Also present at the meeting were Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, who is also a Deputy Chairman of the committee, and officials of the departments concerned.

Speaking at the meeting, Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko acknowledged current efforts of the committee in preparation for holding the anniversary events at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum, Bogyoke Aung San Museum, the Secretariat and religious ceremonies dedicated to the fallen leaders of the country.

He urged the attendees to review the experiences of the previous year’s ceremonies and to take lessons from weaknesses of last year’s events to hold this year’s events the best.

He detailed the programmes including welcoming relatives of martyrs, the flag hoisting and saluting ceremony at the Secretariat, preparation at the Bogyoke Aung San Meseum and security.

Afterwards, Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein discussed the undertakings of the work committee in detail.

On behalf of the Chairman of the Security Committee Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Police Brig-Gen Tin Ko Ko discussed the measures taken by the security committee.

After hearing the discussion of the sub-committees, Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko coordinated the tasks of the sub-committees.

Following the meeting, the chairman and members of the central committee visited the Martyrs’ Mausoleum and the Bogyoke Aung San Meseum and inspected the renovations there in preparation for holding the 72nd Martyrs’ Day. —MNA
