The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and Nay Pyi Taw Council organized a meeting with CSOs, humanitarian organizations and local residents to discuss early preventive measures for natural disasters yesterday.

Union Minister Dr Win Myat Aye, Deputy Minister U Soe Aung, Nay Pyi Taw Council member U Aung Myat Tun and Hluttaw representatives attended the meeting held at Zabuthiri Hall.

The Union Minister first delivered a speech where he said it is necessary for CSOs, relevant organizations and local residents to connect and collaborate together in safeguarding ourselves against natural disasters and threats from climate change.

He said National Disaster Management Committee provides continued support and views the investment in public safety as beneficially guaranteed to the people. He also urged everyone to start using the DAN mobile application to be up to date with news on natural disasters.

Next, U Aung Myat Tun also delivered a speech where he said Nay Pyi Taw has to be particularly diligent towards wind and fire related disasters. He said Paung Laung creek, Sin Thay creek and Nga Lite creek have been modified to make water flow smoother and retaining walls put up to guard against landslides.

Afterwards, the Head of the Nay Pyi Taw Council Disaster Management Department explained about the DAN mobile application and a video introduction on the application was played to the audience.

Next, attendees gave suggestions to organize the one tree per person programme, proper enforcement of anti-littering rules, urging the ministry to conduct short trainings for local humanitarian networks to collaborate on, and hold regular meetings such as this.
