Kaw Thoung, 3 July

A total of 103 Myanmar migrant workers including 91 men and 12 women were sent back from Thailand through the Kawthoung border gate Tuesday evening for not holding proper documentation.

Myanmar labour attaché U Kyaw Soe Wai brought the Myanmar migrant workers to Kawthoung via sea route and handed them over to the authorities in Kaw Thoung.

The Thai government had arrested them as they did not have work permits, and were found holding expired border passes.

The returnees including Maung Wei Lin and Maung Sein Kadon who had received a jail term of eight years after being allegedly accused of killing a Thai schoolgirl by Thai authorities in Ranaung in 2015 were welcomed by officials from the office of Kawthoung District Administration, the Township GAD, Township Police Station, District Immigration and Labor Department and the Department of Social Welfare.

The authorities including police, immigration and labour officers provided necessary assistance to them. The returnee workers were sent to their places of origin after being provided with health care.—Kyaw Soe (Kaw Thoung)
