A discussion on China-Myanmar Sustainable Development Cooperation under the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor jointly organized by Yunnan University Myanmar Studies Institute and Myanmar Affairs Study Group was held at Lotte Hotel, Yangon yesterday morning.
The three part discussion on bilateral sustainable development and cooperation was jointly organized by Myanmar Affairs Study Group at the Information and Public Relations Department of Ministry of Information, and Yunnan University Myanmar Studies Institute with five experts from Yunnan University and 13 experts from Myanmar side.
In the first part under the title of Green Energy Technologies and Sustainable Development, architect and urban expert Dr Kyaw Latt discussed year wise development in export, forest and agriculture sectors related to Myanmar’s urban development, gap in development between states and regions and basic infrastructure and energy requirements, Chinese expert Dr Zanxin Wang discussed China’s green energy development policies, successes and effects, Naymin Energy System Managing Director U Thein Maw discussed Myanmar’s current development in green energy and energy usages and Chinese expert Dr Jingjing Song discussed effects of ethnic nationals’ conflicts on development in Myanmar.
In the second part under the title of Governance: Problems and Challenges, U Khaing Win of Sandi Governance Institute, Chinese expert Dr Mei Li, Dr Tin Maung Than (MDRI-CESD) and Yunnan University Southeast Asia Study Department Assistant Professor Mr. Lyu Xing discussed administrative matters related to successful bilateral cooperation; interconnected works between central and regional governments and supports provided to regional governments with collected taxes; government problems and challenges in implementing projects and development; views of the people on China-Myanmar bilateral cooperation and challenges faced by Myanmar media, status of Myanmar government and media and section where media is responsible respectively.
In the third part under the title of developments of China-Myanmar economic corridors U Zaw Aung discussed Challenges related to Establishing China-Myanmar economic corridor, bilateral memorandum of understandings signed during the term of the new government, cooperation frames, sustainable development program and multi-level connectivity. Chinese expert Dr Yang Xiangzhang and Dr Myint Hsan discussed special economic zone development works under the title of China-Myanmar economic corridor.
Myanmar Affairs Study Group at Information and Public Relations Department in Yangon was formed in July 2016 under the guidance of Union Minister for Information and was conducting research works, redevelopment and publishing of research papers.
Yunnan University Myanmar Studies Institute was established in December 2015. It was first established as Myanmar Studies Centre in 2011. It was the second centre on Myanmar studies to be established after Center for Myanmar Studies of Northern Illinois University, USA was established in 1986.
