Some schools were closed temporarily and residents were evacuated to safer locations due to floodwaters as the water level of Ayeyawady River in TadaU Township, Mandalay Region reached 1285 centimeters, 27 centimeters above its danger mark, according to a source from the General Administration Department.
The water level of Ayeyawady River has been rising since 19 July, leading to closure of some school temporarily and evacuation of some residents in low-lying areas in the township. The students from the closed schools will be compensated for the missed lessons and will be given additional time to study, said U Maw Oo, Township Education Officer.
A total of 4,365 people from 1,118 households in 17 ward/village tracts in the township plus 1,251 animals are currently taking shelter at their relatives’ homes, monasteries and near the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway.—Ye Tint (IPRD)
