45 basic education schools in Singua Township, Mandalay Region have been closed temporarily due to rising water level of the Ayeyawady River, said U Kyaw Naing, Deputy Township Education Officer.

“We used to close schools whenever the floodwaters from Ayeyawady River rose. We cannot teach lessons as schools are inundated by floods. The students from the closed schools will be compensated for the missed lessons and will be given additional time to study when the floodwaters decrease, he said.

Three high schools, three high schools, (branch), four middle schools, one middle school (branch), three post primary schools, 30 primary schools and one primary school (branch) totaling 45 schools in Singu Township were closed temporarily due to floodwaters from the Ayeyawady River.—Min Zaw Oo (IPRD)
