Dr Win Myat Aye, the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, attended the discussion yesterday morning between the government bodies and the Kachin Humanitarian Concern Committee to collaborate in resettlement programmes for the displaced persons in Kachin State.

At the second coordination meeting held at the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw, the Union Minister said that the ministry has adopted strategies to ensure better lives for the displaced persons in Kachin State under the rehabilitation programme before closing temporary camps where they are taking shelters from armed conflicts in their region.

He also said the IDPs will be settled in the appropriate and convenient places to be able to restore their dignity, guarantee education and health services, and create job opportunities for them.

Dr Win Myat Aye added the ministry will work together with the KHCC in these tasks, and called for suggestions from the relevant parties.

Then, the Vice Chairman of KHCC presented their role in coordinating between the government and the local people.

Deputy Minister U Soe Aung, the leader of working committee on the return of displaced persons, members of his committee and the officials of Kachin State government held talks with the KHCC on the future plans based on the data of IDPs and choosing prioritized villages resettlement.

The coordination meeting was attended by Deputy Minister U Soe Aung, Kachin State’s Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Nay Lin Tun, Social Affairs Minister U Nay Win, Command Staff Colonel of Northern Command Colonel Tun Nay Linn, the directors general, the members of working committees, Vice Chairman 1 Father Paul Awng Dang of the KHCC and its members. —MNA
