A total of ten workers went missing when a cargo ship carrying 25000 bags of cement for Thahtay Chaung hydro-power project in Thandwe township, Rakhine state sunk in the waters near Pyinsalu town, Laputta township, Ayeyarwady region at around 4 pm on July 25.

 

A costal ship called “Htawara Arman” carrying cement sunk in Pyamalau river due to strong winds.   Nine workers out of 19 onboard the ship escaped the incident, but another 10 workers including a captain are still missing. The escaped workers arrived to the shore in Aima village in the town of Pyinsalu with lifeboats at 4 am yesterday and were admitted to a hospital in Laputta township.

 

Search and rescue operation is underway for the missing workers, according to Polce Lt Col Tun Shwe from Ayeyarwady Police Force.—Zin Phyo Thu (IPRD)
