Pwintbyu, 29 July
Approximately 14 schools in Pwintbyu Township, Magway Region have been closed temporarily floodwaters from the Ayeyawady River.
Some schools reopened as water level of the Ayeyawady River has decreased, according to a source from the township education officer’s office. Among the closed schools are eleven primary schools, one middle school, one high school (branch) and one BEHS. The students from the closed schools are compensated for the missed lessons and are given additional time to study as water level of the Ayeyawady River has declined to its danger mark, said Daw Khin Mi Kyaw, Headmistress of basic education high school in Ngachaukkyun Village.
The school has admitted to 299 students ranging from KG to Grade-12 in the academic year 2019-2020. An instruction was given to reopen the closed schools in real time if the water level of Ayeyawady River decreases, said U Ngwe Wint Kyaw, Township Deputy Education Officer.—Ye Win Naing
