Kayah State Department of Fisheries has been releasing fingerlings into river, creek, lake and dam in order to ensure food security. A ceremony to release fingerlings into Baluchaung and Htaehnalae lake was held this morning.
On the occasion, State Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Boss Ko, departmental personnel, teachers and students were in attendance.
The fish species are decreasing due to climate change, illegal fishing (eg. electric fishing, blast etc), fishing during breeding period, fishing with banned fish-nets, water pollution, decrease in mangrove, dilution of chemical waste. Therefore, the Fisheries Department released fingerlings into the rivers, creeks and lakes, according to officials from the Fisheries Department.
A total of 40000 fish species of different kinds were released into Baluchaung and Htaehnalae lake.
